On the day I bought the boat the muffler and its platform seemed okay.

But while working on the platform for the new fuel tank I braced my foot on the muffler platform and it collapsed. It's probably just as well that it did -- it was saturated with oil and fuel and contributed to the oily smell that permeated the boat. Though it's difficult to see, this photo shows the muffler platform half missing.

I removed the remains of the platform and sanded the fiberglass smooth.

The old platform was in good enough shape to be used as a template for the new one.

I used marine-grade plywood to construct a replica.

I then glassed the platform in and painted it.

Here, the muffler is installed, but I haven't yet fastened it down or clamped the exhaust hose.

By the way, the diesel/oil smell is now absent.
